When you’re in a bad mood, it’s evident to everyone around you. I pretty much wear my emotions on my sleeve so when I’m pissed off, you know it. Unfortunately this means my kids know it too. Today I’m sharing some simple ideas that you can do to quickly change your mood when you’re in a funk. It’s also a downloadable free printable so you can keep it handy for when you fall victim to a bad mood! And as a special bonus, I’m sharing how to make the best iced coffee!
1. Sip a Yummy Drink.
There is nothing more relaxing that enjoying a yummy cold drink on a hot day (or a hot drink on a cold day!). My current obsession is International Delight Iced Coffee. I’ll show you how I make my Perfect Iced Coffee at the end of the post.
2. Sit Down and Relax.
This might sound like a no-brainer, but sometimes I have to remind myself to sit down and take a break when I need it. This does not mean sit down and make a shopping list or sit down and fold laundry. Sit down. Lie down if you want. But do nothing else. Except maybe #1.
3. Take a Shower.
When I first quit my job to stay home with my kids and blog full time, I was excited at the idea that I didn’t have to schedule my morning around getting ready for my day. I quickly learned that it didn’t work. I was tired, I was irritable, and I had trouble focusing. So I started taking a shower first thing each morning, just like I did when I was working full time. And you know what? Just that simple ten minutes each morning made a huge impact on my entire day!
4. Read a Book.
Grab a book or a magazine, or pick up your Kindle. Just read something that doesn’t have rhyming words. Be sure to have #1 handy. A good book and a yummy drink go hand in hand!
Browse Pinterest or do a google search for home decor inspiration. Sit outside and watch the clouds. Refer to #1.
6. Go for a Walk.
Sometimes all you need is a little fresh air, so grab your shoes and take a walk. If you can’t leave your kids alone, take a walk around the backyard. Breathe in the fresh air. It’s good for you. I promise.
7. Play a Game.
Download a new game on your phone or iPad (I love this one), or even pick up a crossword puzzle or word search. Focus on something else for a few minutes helps to clear your mind so you can forget why you were even in a bad mood in the first place.
8. Call a Friend.
I have a dear friend who can snap me out of a bad mood no matter what. When I’m in a funk, she’s the one I reach out to. Pick up the phone, call up your bestie and just have a gab-fest about nothing in particular.
Grab some paper and pencils, pens, crayons or markers. Sit down by yourself or with your kids and doodle. You don’t have to be van Gogh to create a lovely piece of art.
10. Make Something.
Do you love to craft? Pull out your glue gun and glitter and create. More of a DIYer? Grab your tape measure and drill and build something. Is being in the kitchen more your speed? Find a new recipe to try, like my Caramel Stuffed Snickerdoodles or Caramel Brownies. Chocolate and caramel will put anyone in a good mood!
11. Cuddle Up.
Hug on your kids, your significant other, or even your pets. Just take a moment to love on someone else, and to let them love on you.
12. Turn on Some Music.
Turn up the music nice and loud and have a dance party!
As promised, here’s how to make the Perfect Iced Coffee:
1. Freeze a glass. This is actually a pretty important step. You want to prime your glass by freezing it for, oh, 20-30 minutes or so. Otherwise your drink starts warming as soon as it hits the glass. I like to keep a couple of glasses in the freezer so they are ready to go.
2. Pour in International Delight Iced Coffee in your favorite flavor. I love the Vanilla. Fill the glass about 2/3 of the way full.
3. Add ice to fill the glass to the top.
4. Add a dollop of whipped cream. I like the lighter, creamier texture of Cool Whip – just place a heaping spoonful in a bowl and whip it with a small wire whisk to make it extra rich and creamy. Then scoop it up and drop it right on top of your iced coffee. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
