It was quite the rainy weekend for us, so it was a perfect time to stay inside, listen to Christmas carols and decorate our Christmas tree.
One of the traditions I started when Cooper was old enough to help decorate, was to give my kids a new ornament each year the day we decorate the tree. They also get one in their stocking on Christmas morning. The new ornaments always reflect something they have been really into that past year. Cooper got Spiderman and Riley got Minnie Mouse.
I let the kids put most of the ornaments on themselves.
Think they'll notice when I rearrange the ornaments?
Another Christmas tradition is visiting Disneyland. This was the first weekend of Christmas at the parks, so it was pretty crowded.
We watched the parade.
We posed in front of the giant Christmas tree in goofy hats.
And of course a Christmas visit would not be complete without a visit to Santa.
When Santa asked them what they wanted for Christmas this is what they said:
Riley: Minnie Mouse!
Cooper: An Ipad!
Go big or go home, right?
Happy

Nothing is more beautiful on a tree than ornaments hung by little hands! We gave our chldren an ornament every year too and I love unpacking them every year. They are in their 20s now so we have a collection that includes power puff girls, my little pony, darth vader and Bart Simpson! I'll be sad when they finally have a tre of their own and I have to let them go.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend you guys had! My hubby and I went to Disneyland w/o kids Friday, it was so nice to go on the rides we never get to go on. We are taking the girls next week and I'm so excited to see their faces. I love Christmas time there and all the fun decorations.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your littles have a great Thanksgiving!
What great traditions... Just wondering if only the ornaments you give them go on the tree... Or if you add others. Was thinking this will be a great tradition when we have kids. Too bad we can't do the Disney tradition too... a little to expensive for us, since it would have to include airfare and accommodations!
ReplyDeleteWe are putting up our tree tonight, and loads of people have said it's too early! Glad to see were aren't the only ones! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post! It made me smile, and I LOVE the way the way your Christmas tree was decorating. I think the kids will notice when you re-decorate it, I'm just saying ;0) Katie makes our entire family go to the parade around her birthday in December on the 17th. It is always cold, crowded and kind of a pain. But once the parade starts and I watch my little grandkids eyes light up and the smiles are their faces, I'm so thankful I went!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Love all the different traditions. My kids loved to decorate the tree . I always let them do it and like you they always received an ornament each year from us and also one from the grandparents. When they were old enough to move out and be on their own their ornaments went with them. They still even after having there own kids and some with grandkids still love hanging the special ornaments. I have carried on my parents tradition of ornaments with the grandkids and now the great grandbabies.

Awe, so fun! This week at the Thanksgiving Day parade, when it was over, my 3 year old niece said "Wait, we can't leave! Santa didn't give me my present yet!"
ReplyDeleteKids are so cute. I miss my girls being little.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Love the shot of them decorating the tree! It has brought back so many memories for me...I miss those days! I let my kids decorate the tree every year (with a bit of rearranging myself). My son and I do it together now...hoping my daughter will be around this year to help!
