I'm not going to get into the whole Blogger/Wordpress debate, but I do want to make a plea - PLEASE BACKUP YOUR BLOG NOW!
There have been plenty of instances where blogs have been lost, with no hope of restoring them. Completely gone. We all think "oh, it won't happen to me," but it can.
Don't know how to backup your blog? It's easy!
Simply go to "Settings" and click "Export blog."
Then click "Download."
Save your blog to your computer.
Do it. Now.
Tidy Mom has a great post on the many reasons you should backup your blog, if you need more!
If you need help, please don't hesitate to contact me.
***Updated***
I received a couple of emails asking about how to do this with the new Blogger interface, since most of us are using that now. Here's how to back-up your blog on the new Blogger Interface:
Click on "Settings," then "Other," and then "Export blog."
Should something ever happen to your blog, you would just need to follow the same instructions, and just select "Import blog." instead of "Export."
Keeping my fingers crossed that my sweet friend will have her blog back tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good reminder, and I did it. There may be hope--sometime last fall my blog disappeared for no reason, and I panicked. Within a few hours, it magically reappeared. Hoping the same will happen for Kristen!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this helpful and needful post!
ReplyDeleteThere is hope for sweet Kristin, because I believe it says that the blog won't be deleted unless we choose to delete it ourselves.
Fingers crossed for Kristin xo

ReplyDeleteHi Kristen! This happened to me too but all I did was go to blogger help and followed their directions, they gave me a choice of a recorded phone call or text, I chose text. It wasn't a minute and I got my text and did what they said and my blog was back on in a second. Believe me my blog had completely disappeared!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information, I am in the process of backing it up as I write this
ReplyDeleteDo you know how to back it up if you are in Wordpress? This is such a wonderful post! Thanks so much for posting this.

PS I hope everything is back on-line for Kristen tomorrow....she is wonderful.
Thank you so much! I'm new to blogging. I started it at the begging of my friends but I do it for myself and my family. We've recently moved from US to Holland and so I wanted to keep track of all the funny, fun adventures my family is going through so we wouldn't forget. I would be lost if I lost this precious information. Thank you again... Lisa http://americangirlinholland.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I just backed up my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I'll be doing this every single night from now on.
ReplyDeleteOne morning I started getting e-mails that my blog had been deleted! After a short moment of panic, and telling myself that my next blog would have ALL nice pictures (funny the things that run through our heads in moments like this), I waited 15 minutes, then checked it and it was back! Super strange and super scary! Thanks for the info! I will be backing it up!
ReplyDelete--Katie Yes, I wrote to the blogger forum while I waited and nope, never heard back from anyone.
I just started my blog a week ago so I am thrilled to find this out now. Thank you!! I've backed up my blog and will continue to do so with every new post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post, never knew how to do it before!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info Kristen!!! So sad about the other Kristens blog. That has got to be frustrating to say the least.
ReplyDeletemy understanding is they are doing server Maintenance. like several people here, i've seen this before & it was also due to Maintenance. i work in IT so i understand the need to have systems up 24x7 but sometimes it just isn't possible. so it is a good idea to do regular backups yourself in the event Maintenance work causes issues. good practice & thanks for bringing it ot everyone's attention!
ReplyDeleteI did this and I'm so grateful for your suggestion! I would be devastated if I lost everything I've written and the photos! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Got all mine backed up and saved on our external hard-drive

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to know this too! Never thought about it! I have the new interface, and followed your instructions. After clicking download...it shows my blog in archive format, so how do I then save it to my computer? I double clicked on my mac...and no option to save...? And it's not showing up in my downloads folder. Sorry..I'm new to all of this.
