Entryway/Mini Mudroom and Bench Makeover

A few months ago, I had stated that I wanted a "mini mudroom" of sorts for my hall closet, but in Southern California, a mudroom isn't exactly warranted. So, I decided to just do a mini-makeover of the entry-way!

I worked on my entry way this weekend, trying to make it an actual useable space, and I think I succeeded!

I did this Sunday night, and (gasp) didn't take a before picture!

Just imagine nothing being there, except random shoes and jackets being laid on top of a small bench.

On a recent trip to IKEA, I purchased this coat rack for $9.99. I love the galvanized look of the hooks.

The bench, I LOVE the bench! If you've been reading Simply Klassic Home for a while, you might remember my master bedroom makeover. One of the projects for that makeover was this bench.

I simply painted it a slightly off-white (pure white, with some cottage white mixed in) and recovered the seat again with a piece of dropcloth. (Still haven't attached the seat to the frame, and probably won't - it hasn't bothered me yet!).

Then I took a Sharpie marker and wrote "love" in cursive letters. I based it on all of the wall art I've seen, one of which I featured here, but I really didn't have a place for a piece of art like that. Yet I still wanted to incorporate it somehow, which is how this idea came to be!

I added the vintage soda crate under the bench to hold shoes, like my favorite UGGS.

The kids can't reach the coat rack, but they will be able to climb on the bench and still hang up their coats. This may or may not be a good idea!

I'm really happy with how this little 11 pm entry way makeover turned out!

I'm not convinced that I love the sign though. It was just something I happened to have on hand that didn't have a home - what do you think?

  5. Kritin-so pretty! Leaving the top unsecured-good for a quick redo-but if little ones are apt to climb on it---not so good! I speak from (my own fall on my arse)experience! Lol! The sign is pretty-maybe a home sweet home or all hearts come home or...considering the entry way...but hey, for 11 PM---IT'S AWESOME!!! Blessings, Sharon

  6. be careful with the bench on that floor--it could slide out from underneath them--we've had a few bumped heads that way!~
