Saturday Spotlight - Salvage Dior

You may remember that before the BBC, I had vowed to start featuring more of my favorite blogs. Well, I'm making good on that with today's Saturday Spotlight. Maybe it will become a regular feature. Maybe not. But for now, enjoy!

I'm super excited today to share with you a good friend of mine who I've referenced before on SKH. Allow me to introduce you to Kate of Salvage Dior.

I've known Kate for about five years now. We have journeyed a path not many would have the strength to trod, and I know she will be my friend for life.

Beautiful displays of "junk" - old bottles, worn hymnals, rusty, vintage gardening sheers, dried branches - she sees potential in everything.

Salvaged wood and shutters are a favorite, as well as chippy urns and coral. All make an appearance in each and every room of the Dior home.

Salvage Dior was featured on Apartment Therapy a couple of months ago for the artwork you see on the wall in her living room. She is the frugal DIY queen, and created these faux iron hangings from dollar store rubber mats.

Her love of rustic, coastal and industrial spills over into her small space #31 at Country Roads, located in downtown Orange, California. Her belief is that decor should be affordable and so she keeps her prices as reasonable as possible.

Her blog and home displays were featured in ROMANTIC HOMES Magazine's June 2012 issue.

I was so excited for her and couldn't wait to bring the mag home and sit in my favorite chair, flipping through the pages with a hot cup of coffee this morning.

To look at her and her hubby, Mr. Dior, you would think they are the perfect couple and that they have it all.

Indeed they are a beautiful, intelligent, and talented couple, but they have their struggles just like me and just like each of you. Their faith in God and great love for each other is undeniably the glue that holds their family together. You would never know it to look at her, but Kate suffers from lupus, a terrible disease that causes great pain and mornings where she can't even get out of bed. You will have to visit Salvage Dior for the whole story. It truly is remarkable and inspiring.

(Sorry Kate, I had to gush.)

You are the Obi-Wan to my Jedi.

Don't forget, Simply Klassic Sunday starts tonight at 5 pm PST. See you then!
