Today is the first day of October.
At the moment it's 100 degrees. On October 1. In Southern California.
I think I need to move to Canada.
At any rate, it has been a challenge to decorate for fall this year with these record breaking heat waves we've been having, so I decided to go with simple.
I took my kids apple picking at a local orchard last weekend (pictures to come in a later post), and while we were there I picked up a few pumpkins and other gourds, which I used to decorate the table.
That branch in the pitcher? Funny story about that...This one's for Kate ~
After leaving the apple orchard, I was driving along just minding my own business when I spotted a beautiful (and quite large) branch on the side of the road. I thought about it for a split second and then turned around and went back to get it. Luckily there was no one behind me!
However, a few people did drive by as I was photographing this huge thing in my trunk. I'm sure they were thinking, "GOOD LORD!"
I broke it into a few pieces, and used some for my table. The rest of it is elsewhere in the house, but you'll have to wait to see that!
Since the day I picked up this pitcher at TJMaxx, it has always reminded me of Debbiedoos. I set it atop a couple of books in my hutch. The locker baskets hold some creamy white linens and some of my favorite mason jars.
I puchased several bunches of Indian corn at the orchards as well. Unfortunately when I got home I realized they were all moldy inside the husks. Ew. Lesson learned.
So I picked up three ears at my local grocery store, for about the same price as the dozen I'd gotten at the farm!
I've had this cute white pumpkin for about five years, and I still love her.
The ruffled white linen runner was a gift from Carolyn of Sweet Tea & Linen for my birthday. The fringed burlap runner was the brainchild of Kristen of Ella Claire. She shares the easy tutorial here.
My kids were a bit confused as to why I set the table like this, seeing as how they are only allowed to use plastic plates.
The apples are from the orchard and for the life of me I can't remember what kind they are.
But they look really pretty.
How many angles can I photograph this table at?
There you go, simple fall table decor.
Yes, the ceiling fan is on. It's 100 degrees, remember?

It looks beautiful! I love all of your little touches! I almost bought that vase about four or five times from Home Sense. I love it but I kept putting it back as I didn't know where I would put it. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should do a home exchange for a while -I'm in Canada (and it is just lovely right now!) but always talking about moving somewhere hot!
Such a beautiful space, Kristin! The colors are so pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the decorations especially the white pumpkin that you have had for five years. I have always been to scared to stop and pick something off the side of the road and If you can do it then I can do it! About the 100 degree weather........ You need to use a little more imagination, just like your kids have. One night turn your ac down low put sweaters on some charliebrown music and do a fall craft with the kids. Sometimes a little imagination can transport us to a better and happier place.
ReplyDeleteLove your table. I've had white pumpkins for years but last Christmas they took a nose dive and were destroyed; haven't found any new ones yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm in Canada. And it's been hot here too!
Umm we are gonna have to start begging the weather man to help you out over there. Geez your hotter than Florida. Love you gourds and pumpkins though. I'm telling you this year it's all about the natural fall leaves, pumpkins, etc. They are just doing it for me.
ReplyDeleteso pretty! Im sweating in so cal too :( Having a harder time getting into the fall spirit.
ReplyDeleteLove your table settings and the decorations on your hutch. I have the same vase but in green and I know to put ontop of books on my table. Here in Illinois we beautiful trees with fall colors and weather to match.

Simply lovely!
ReplyDeleteEverything is simply beautiful. That twig is perfect! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLove your table setting.I am a pumpkin fanatic and have all kinds, real and otherwise. I also adore white pumpkins. I have a cinderella one right now on front porch cause I don't have a dining table. I will soon have a small oak table one set up in my family room when my new couch arrives so I will prop it on there with my white ones. Also I love your chairs. That's what I am looking for now...However, Christmas may be here by the time my new couch arrives and the others are removed. Also, LOVE your branch and I would do the same thing. I have curly willow but love this. I live in Ohio. Maybe one day I will make it to Cal.
ReplyDeleteHow do you keep your pumpkins for 5 years? Do you varnish?
