Chocolate and Peppermint is my all time favorite flavor combination so it’s no surprise that these cookies are a holiday staple in our house. These Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies are super easy and quick to make with just 5 ingredients!

Peppermint Double Chocolate Cookies

Last Christmas I discovered these delicious little peppermint bits at my grocery store. They are super tasty and were perfect for my Peppermint S’Mores Brownies. This year I knew I wanted to use them again so I decided to add them into my favorite chocolate cake mix cookies.

Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

Cake Mix cookies are the easiest kind of cookies to make, they are soft and chewy and only require a few ingredients – a box cake mix, 2 eggs and a stick of butter. That’s it! Of course the chocolate chips and peppermint bits make a world of difference, but even without those additions these cookies taste seriously amazing.

5 Ingredient Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box Devil's Food Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1/2 cup room temperature butter 1 stick
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk chocolate chips divided
  • 1/2 cup peppermint bits see notes for types of candy

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Stir together cake mix, butter and eggs until combined.
  • Stir in ½ cup chocolate chips and ¼ peppermint bits.
  • Using a cookie scoop, divide dough onto baking sheets. Top with remaining chocolate chips and peppermint bits, if desired.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 13-15 minutes or until cookies are puffy and no longer glossy.
  • Cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before transferring to cooling racks.
  • Once completely cooled, store in an airtight container for up to one week.

Notes

I love easy recipes like this one because you can easily make your own cookies by swapping the cake mix and baking chip flavors.
For the topping you an either use Crushed Candy Canes or Andes Peppermint Bits.

  1. The recipe says to “stir together” cake mix, butter, and eggs. It seems as if stirring softened butter would be problematic. Do you mean to cream them together with a mixer? Thank you.

    1. No, I mean stir. You can stir with a wooden spoon – Softened butter is able to be stirred in with a wooden spoon or with your mixer. The choice is yours. Just don’t overmix because they will become dense.

  2. I interpreted “peppermint bits” as pieces of peppermint candy/candy canes which, of course, don’t work. If the recipe could be edited to add “NOT peppermint candy or candy canes” after peppermint bits that would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

    1. Actually, Crushed Candy Canes should work just fine, as would a peppermint crunch topping. Adding both to the post.

  3. It would have been very helpful to include in your recipe that you don’t advise using regular peppermint candies.

  4. Have you tried using peppermint extract? I want to boost the minty-ness but I know it’s risky since it’s such a strong flavor.

    1. You can, but they tend to melt funny as the cookies bake. You could try pressing them into the cookies immediately after taking them out of the oven. The baking chips are best because they are actually made for baking.

    1. Sort of. They can be found in the baking aisle, or at specialty retailers. I’ve seen them at World Market. They are Andes brand, yes.

  5. Hi! This recipe is wonderful, but I wanted to know how many ounces the cake mix was. I have a gluten allergy so I wanted to make sure I had the proper amount of cake mix before I make these
