I create this page to help you quickly find answers to some of the questions I’m asked the most about my site. If you don’t find the answer to your concern here, please contact me.

This recipe didn’t work for me. What went wrong?

This can be a difficult question for me to answer, as I was not in the kitchen with you. Please understand that while all of my recipes are successfully tested in my own kitchen before they are posted on the blog, each kitchen, and each cook, is different. There can be many factors that can cause a recipe to fail such as oven temperature variations, cooking techniques, climate and altitude, even food brands.

With a little bit more information, we can try and troubleshoot what went wrong, so you can have success with that recipe in the future.

Can I substitute this ingredient?

I recommend using the specified ingredients for each recipe for optimal outcomes. However, I do understand that due to dietary restrictions, allergies, or particular tastes, sometimes a substitution is necessary. I definitely encourage you to be creative in the kitchen – that’s what I love about cooking! While I love that you want to get creative with a recipe, if I haven’t tried a particular substitution, I cannot guarantee whether or not it will be successful or if it will change a particular texture or taste of a dish.

Can you provide the nutritional information for this recipe?

I am not a registered dietitian or nutritionist so unfortunately I am not comfortable providing this information. However, there are lots of great resources and calorie counters online that you can utilize at your discretion.

How long can I store this in the refrigerator or freezer?

Since I am not an expert on food safety, I leave this to your best judgment. There are lots of resources out there that can help you decide how long it’s safe to store certain foods. I do not freeze all of my recipes, so I am not always able to tell how well a certain recipe will taste once reheated.

Can I make this in a slow cooker?

If I have tested a particular recipe in the slow cooker, I will let you know within the post or the recipe itself. Otherwise, you are welcome to test it out (remember I love kitchen creativity!) and be sure to let us know the results.

What camera equipment do you use?

I shoot all of my images with a Canon 6D 20.2 MP. I have two lenses that I alternate between; a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens and a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. The second lens I keep on my camera for everyday use as well. I only use natural lighting when shooting my recipes, and I edit with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

What are your must-have kitchen tools?

Like most cooks/bakers, I love my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. It’s a workhorse and it’s super versatile. Some of my other favorite tools that I use a lot are my Cast Iron Skillet, Cast Iron Enamel Pot/Dutch Oven, and Silicone Spatulas.

Are you really a full-time blogger?

Yes! I have received a full-time income from blogging since 2013. In March of 2014 I quit my other full-time job and began blogging as my only source of income. It has allowed me, as a mom of two, to be home with my kids when they need me to be, and has more than provided for my family. I get to explore my passions, cook all the time, take pictures, and write – it’s the best job ever!
