DIY Macrame Boho Candle Lanterns

Hey y’all! I’m Kirsten from Sweet Tea & Saving Grace, and I’m happy to be here today! I’ve got a fun project to share with you, inspired by the upcoming makeover of my daughter’s bedroom. She’s a boho girl, and I wanted to create a fun accent for her room that suited her style. Today I want to show you how to make your own DIY Macrame Boho Candle Lanterns.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace I’m kind of addicted to mason jars, and love to find new ways to use them in my craft and DIY projects, so I thought it would be fun to turn them into candle lanterns, but needed a creative way to hang them.

Macrame! It’s a lot easier than you might think, so let’s get started:

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Grab a loooooong piece of paracord (you’ll need several feet), a ring, and scissors.

I didn’t measure exactly, but I stretched the paracord across the entire length of my outstretched arms, fingertip to fingertip. The longer, the better. You’ll need 5 pieces of paracord that length.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Once you’ve cut your strings, grab a lighter and carefully apply heat to the ends until they are sealed to avoid fraying.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Pull all 5 strings through the ring, pulling the ring to the middle of the string, then tie a big knot. Pull it tight.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Lay it out flat, then separate the strings into pairs. About ⅓ of the way down, tie a knot in each set of two strings, as in the photo above.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Now tie knots in the adjacent two strings, as above. You’ll have one string on each side left all by itself – simply tie these two together.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Now tie all of the strings together again at the end, and pull tight.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace Grab your mason jars and insert them into your macrame boho candle lantern holder, and you’re all set! I used some gold puff paint to dress mine up a bit, for added flair.

DIY Boho Candle Lanterns | Sweet Tea & Saving Grace You could also use these to hang flowers – wouldn’t that be so pretty?!
