Did you know that you can EASILY make donuts at home??? I didn’t until a saw someone a couple of months ago mention that they made donuts from canned biscuit dough. It was like the heavens opened and angels were singing.
Ok not really, but I was pretty excited. Probably a little more excited than I should have been.
You are going to want to run out and buy a can of biscuit dough when you see how easy this is to make. My kids, of course, were thrilled with it!
The addition of the pumpkin spice makes this a perfect fall treat.
The steps are pretty easy:
First you cut a hole in the center of each biscuit. ( I use the flaky/layered biscuits, but the regular kind will work just as well).
Next you fry the dough. Careful not to turn the heat up to high or you will burn the outside before the inside is cooked. Don’t ask me how I know.
Then flip ’em over, and repeat.
Let them cool before, but while they are still warm, dip each side in pumpkin spice/sugar mixture. Drizzle with cinnamon glaze if desired.
Semi-Homemade Pumpkin Spice "Donuts"
Ingredients
- Semi Homemade Pumpkin Spice Donuts
- 1 can Pillsbury Flaky Biscuits
- Oil
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp milk or water
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- 1. Cut a hole in the biscuit dough. Ideally you would use a circle cookie cutter, I used a small round Tupperware container for this. Don't forget to save the insides for donut holes!
- 2. Heat oil in a skillet on medium heat. DO NOT OVERHEAT!
- 3. Using heat proof tongs, gently place each donut in the oil. Fry for a few minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- 4. Remove donuts from the oil and arrange a paper towel to cool for several minutes. While they are still warm, dip each side in pumpkin spice/sugar mixture. Drizzle with cinnamon glaze if desired.
- 5. To make the cinnamon glaze, Mix powdered sugar, milk, and ground cinnamon together with a small whisk or fork. Drizzle over warm, fresh donuts.

My mother used to make these for us when we were small. My favorite part of the “cooking” process was the sugaring. We would shake the doughnut and sugar mix in a brown paper bag (so interactive!). Definitely brings back fond memories! =)
Kristin those look amazing! Another fall treat I need to make with my kiddos.
Wow! This is so awesome! Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂 I will most definitely be going to the store TODAY to buy the canned biscuits. Excited to make them for my family on Saturday morning!!
