Each summer, just before school starts, we plan a fun, family vacation to the Disneyland Resort. We have held this tradition for three years now. It’s something that the kids look forward to, and they almost forget that school is just around the corner! I personally have stayed at each of the three Resort Hotels, and while the Grand Californian and the Paradise Pier Hotel each have their charms, the Disneyland Hotel is by far my favorite. Here are a few reasons why –
1. Disney Magic is everywhere.
From the Teacup seats in the lobby to the Mickey faucets in the bathroom and everywhere in between, there is Disney Magic to be felt. From the moment you walk into the lobby, you are transported into a Disney-esque world. Hidden Mickeys and Disney history are everywhere and the cast members are eager to help make your stay as magical as possible. Disney Princesses tell bedtime stories on a special Disneyland Hotel channel and you can even schedule a wake-up call from the Mouse himself! Be sure to visit each of the three towers – there is fun Disneyana history in each lobby that tells the story of Disneyland.
2. Magical Headboards.
Nothing compares to the themeing at the Disneyland Hotel – the headboards are “magic” and with a flip of a switch the fireworks over Sleeping Beauty’s Castle twinkle and sparkle and play soft music. My kids absolutely LOVE falling asleep to the twinkling lights.
3. The Water Slides.
Kids and adults will both enjoy the Monorail Waterslides. Keeping with the fantastic theming that Disney is known for, the waterslides are fashioned after the monorails and include a re-creation of the “Disneyland” sign that used to be visible at the single parking lot entrance. In fact there are two pools, two jacuzzis and TWO big waterslides. It is the perfect way to cool off after a hot morning in the parks. If you really want to splurge, rent a cabana for a half or full day. They also offer complimentary life vests and have tons of life guards on duty.
4. Location, location, location.
Transportation is not necessary when staying at the Disneyland Hotel. It’s a short walk to the front gates. Or hop on at the Downtown Disney Monorail entrance and go directly to Tomorrowland! You can even take the exclusive hotel guest entrance into California Adventure via the Grand Californian Hotel. You are also within walking distance to all the fun that Downtown Disney has to offer. And it’s a pretty cool feeling to know that when you wake up, you’re already there. PLUS, it’s a huge bonus in the evening to be able to walk straight to your hotel and not have to beat the crowds to the tram.
5. Extra Magic Mornings.
Each day, hotel guests are given an extra hour in one of the parks. By showing your hotel key, you can enter the park an hour earlier on those mornings. Disneyland’s Magic Hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and California Adventure’s are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Plan to get to the park early and grab those elusive fast passes for rides like Radiator Springs Racers or Haunted Mansion and also get in line to be one of the first to ride. This is a HUGE perk of staying on site at the Disneyland Resort.
6. The view.
Have you ever wanted to watch the fireworks from your hotel window? Well you can if you stay at the Disneyland Hotel. Ask for a fireworks view when you book. This was perfect for when my kids were too little to stay that late in the parks. We still got the show (the music is piped in through your TV) and they got to bed at a somewhat decent hour.
This fireworks photo was taken from our hotel room (while holding my daughter, sorry for the shaky photo!):
There are also stunning views of Disneyland and California Adventure from your hotel window. One of my very favorite things is waking up, looking out the window and seeing California Screamin’ or the Disneyland Railroad Station. It really makes you feel like you are completely immersed in the magic.
7. Mickey Waffles by the Pool.
Is there any better way to start a vacation than with Mickey waffles by the pool? I think not. Tangaroa Terrace offers quick service breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole family, and is a great place to stop on the way into the parks, or to the pool.
Even if it’s just for part of your vacation, I encourage you to look into staying at the Disneyland Hotel. You won’t regret it! For reservations call 714-956-MICKEY.
