Welcome Amy from All Things Home!
What a blessing to be included in Kristin’s Attitude of Gratitude series this month because it truly helps me remember all of the many things that I have to be thankful for. Before I continue on, let me introduce myself. I am Amy Kinser, and I am a wife, mother, and most importantly, a child of God. I homeschool our two youngest children while our oldest takes classes at our local community college. I love to take care of our home. I love to pretty it up and keep it cozy and welcoming for my family and for all of those friends who stop by for a visit.
I could share with you so many things that I am thankful for, but today I will focus on one. Today I want to tell you how thankful I am for the one who introduced me to the One.
As I pray about what I should write, I ponder on people and things that I am thankful for. I think about those that are important to me. I think about things that I wouldn’t want to be without. There are lots of important people in my life; people that I cannot imagine never having entered my life. There are foods that I love to eat, things in our home that I enjoy looking at, places that I love going. Like you, there are so many things that I could tell you that I am thankful for.
I was raised in a home with two parents who truly loved me. We went to church. We prayed before our meals. I knew about God, but I didn’t know God. I knew about being a Christian, but I was totally lost.
Fast forward a few years and along comes this handsome, polite, young man with the greatest smile I had ever seen. My mom introduced me to him. She knew he was a great guy before I had even met him. It only took one introduction for me to know that he was different.
This young man with the great smile had something within him that I don’t think I had ever really seen. He had peace. He had joy. He had love. Unfortunately, I had not seen a lot of these things in my home growing up. Yes, I had two parents who loved me, but they didn’t love each other. There was no peace in our home. There was abuse. There was very little joy. Our home was filled mostly with chaos. I was really a mess inside and didn’t actually know it. Remember, I was lost. I was a sinner in desperate need of a Savior and I had no clue. I had lived a life of fear, not knowing what the next day would hold. Anxiety for my mom’s welfare was always at the forefront of my mind. Peace didn’t really exist for me, but I really didn’t know anything different. Until….
Until….I met the one who taught me about the One. My husband showed me the love of God in everything he did. He exuded joy that only Christ’s love could fill you with. He taught me the value of integrity. He taught me, by example, true kindness, not superficial. I learned that there was Someone who truly loved me more than any other person ever had loved me. I learned that there was Someone who would be there for me at all times in all circumstances. I learned that with Christ all things were possible. I learned that there was power in praying and that prayer was a conversation with God. I learned so much from this earthly man who was soon to become my husband. I learned that I had a great need. I wanted what he had. I wanted to be like him. I wanted to know Who he knew…really know Him. I wanted Jesus!!!
Two weeks after mine and Donnie’s first date, we knew we were in love. Three months after our first date, he asked me to marry him. Ten months after our first date, I married my prince charming. A few months after we married, I gave my heart and life to Jesus Christ and I HAVE NEVER been the same.
I fell in love with a man who loved the Lord. That man, by the grace of God, loved me, taught me, nurtured me. I am so thankful for this man, my husband. I am more than thankful for the One who saved me! I am thankful that I am on this journey of life with a man who loves God more than he loves anything else. I am thankful that I continue to learn more and more about Christ each and every day. I am thankful that God’s grace is abundant. I am thankful that I have a baby in heaven waiting for me. I am thankful for three children on this earth who have all given their hearts to Christ. I am thankful for my precious family and wonderful friends.
I am truly thankful!
