How To Make Cool Whip Cookies
See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions
- Mix the first 3 ingredients in a large bowl. Pro tip – Whisk the egg in the bowl first, just enough to break it up, then add the cake mix and Cool Whip. No need to dirty a bowl just to whisk the egg!
- Scoop out dough and roll in powdered sugar.
- Bake at 350℉ for 10 minutes, then transfer baked cookies to a wire rack to cool.
Storage
Room Temperature Storage: Store cooled cake mix cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days. No refrigeration needed.
Freezer Storage: First allow cookies to cool completely. Stack cookies in a freezer safe container with parchment paper in between the layers. Or, place the cookies on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and flash freeze for 1-2 hours. Once cookies are solid, transfer to a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Expert Tips
- Stirring will take about 3 minutes, it can take a while to make sure all the cake mix is dissolved. Don’t use an electric hand mixer or stand mixer – it will deflate the Cool Whip.
- To make perfectly shaped cookies, use a glass and swirl around each cookie when it’s still hot from the oven.
- These cookie dough balls are sticky! Drop from the cookie scoop straight into the powdered sugar; do not try to roll in your hands.
- I used chocolate cake mix, which is perfect year round. Try using a different flavor of cake mix for different cookie flavors, like red velvet cake mix for Christmas or lemon cake mix for spring.
