Peeps Popcorn is a delightful Easter treat that’s easy to make and a nice variation from your typical popcorn balls you usually only see in the fall.

Marshmallow Popcorn Made with Peeps

I think we’ve established by now that I love Peeps. I mean, you’ve seen my Easter Rice Krispie Treats made with marshmallow Peeps, right?

So when I was challenged with making something other than S’Mores with them, I happily accepted.

How to Make Peeps Popcorn

  • Start by cooking your popcorn. (I actually prefer to make stovetop popcorn – tastes so much better!). Remove any unpopped kernels. If you prefer the microwave kind, be sure to get the crispy white or tender white, NOT the buttered flavors, which just get soggy.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat and add the Peeps. Stir them until they are melted and the mixture is nice and smooth. Keep stirring while they are melting, or the sugar will scorch. I have to tell you, if you love Peeps, this part might make you a little sad. It’s kind of like watching the witch in the wizard of Oz – “I’m melllttting!”
  • Pour the melted mixtures over your popcorn and gently stir with a silicone spoon.
  • Pour the sticky popcorn out on waxed paper to cool. Be careful – the marshmallow gets very hot and can result in burned fingers! Not that I would know anything about that. Spread the popcorn out to cool and then break into chunks, or form popcorn balls.

Sharing and Storing

Peeps come in so many pretty spring colors. I made several small batches for a colorful assortment. If you don’t pop on the stove, like me, one bag of microwave popcorn yields around 12-14 cups of popped popcorn, and therefore five to seven batches of sticky, yummy, gooeyness.

Break up into small chunks and mix up the colors for an adorable spring or Easter party snack!

Store any leftovers in an airtight container. If you actually have any leftover.

  1. Just amazed at so many different and wonderful recipes, thank-you for sharing these recipes with myself and my family, may God almighty bless you.

  2. Great recipe! Really tasty and cute. I have made several batches. Sometimes I make with leftover salted popcorn for a salty-sweet taste that I sometimes crave. My son likes to add M&M’s–the pastel colored ones look great for Easter treats. We call them bunny tails. Thanks for a great recipe all on its own that can be customized so easily.

  3. I made these cause I had a pack of Peeps and I was like “I dunno what I’m gonna do with these. I don’t wanna just eat these straight up cause marshmallows are a little meh”
I figured I’d suggest an easier option to melting the Peeps cause as a 15 year old who struggles to saute some shrimp and make basic quesadillas, I melted a few Peeps in the saucepan and the heat was too low, so they didn’t go on my popcorn and just left a mess in the pan that I gotta clean up later. However, microwave melting does 1000000% work. I did like three Peeps with some random small quantity of butter (I don’t really know how much tbh, but sticking with the original quantity of Peep and butter probably works just fine) and stuck them in the microwave for like 45 seconds and stirred them mess out of it to melt it well and easily poured and mixed it into the popcorn.
Just saying microwave>saucepan for that step. Also these are freaking good and I should have eaten an actual lunch before I gave into my sweet tooth but whatever

  4. Howdy,

If you don’t want your peeps popcorn to be as sticky then you can dry it out a bit in the oven just like caramel corn. Preheat oven to 250F. After making the peeps popcorn, spread it on a greased or sprayed cookie sheet, bake for about 30 minutes. Stir every 15 minutes. It may take a bit longer to bake and make crispy and not sticky. The oven is actually evaporating any water from the sugar which will make it crispy and not sticky.

    Perfect recipe. Cheers.

  5. This sounds so yummy! I am going to make this tomorrow!! I love anything candy popcorn:). Never thought of peeps before.

  6. Enjoying this recipe right now. I made purple tonight, but bought several different colors the day after Easter.

  7. I found you through Pinterest. Just made double batches of green, pink and yellow for a Egg Hunt/get-together tomorrow. Turned out great! My daughter’s Birthday party is next weekend, so will definitely be buying more Peeps at post-Easter prices to make more. I think I’ll add a drop or 2 of food coloring to the marshmallow mixture for bolder colors for the party.

    1. Brilliant for the grandchildren. Get them fired up on these on a cold winter day will get them energised. Great recipe

  8. Yummy recipe. Ended up changing it round to make it easier for me. I used a 2 qt.microwave safe bowl and melted the peeps in it for 1 1/2 min. Took them out stirred the peeps down and put them back in the microwave for another 1 minute. Then added popcorn to melted peeps. (Also did 2 tablespoons butter)

  9. Looks yummy. Kids definitely like this and this good idea for kids birthday party.

  10. Wow sticky gooey sweet popcorn….my mouth is watering, I think I would add some dry roasted peanuts too, or any other favorite nut, the combos could be endless!!!!!
    Jeanne 🙂
