Gray and White Kitchen Reveal

It’s finished! It’s finished! I can’t believe it’s finally finished!! Remember eight weeks ago when I shared my plans for remodeling my kitchen?

Over the last eight weeks I took my completely outdated 1950s kitchen from this:

Original kitchen:

A kitchen with bench seat and table

After removing the built in bench and table:

Kitchen Reno 3

Kitchen Reno 2

Gray and White Kitchen Reveal - You have to see the before!!

To say I am ecstatic with the outcome would be a gross understatement. My kids keep asking me, “Mommy do you like your new kitchen?” I am thrilled. It came out just like I pictured – only better. This is definitely by far the biggest project I have ever taken on, designed and budgeted for and I’ll admit it was exhausting and it was scary. I opted to work with a contractor since there was no way I could DIY this, and quite frankly, I just didn’t want to. I wanted it done right!

It took a total of eight weeks to be finished, but while that was incredibly hard, it was oh so worth it. I’ll quit yacking now and let you enjoy the photos. There are a lot. I’ll share a source list at the bottom of the post.

The printables on the wall were created by me. They will be available to download in a separate post. I opted for clipboards instead of frames because I like the flexibility it gives. I’m looking forward to changing them out for the seasons (and sharing more fun sets with you!).

I am IN LOVE with this sink and faucet from Moen. Like, I want to sleep in this sink and take showers with this faucet. They are that awesome. The faucet is MotionSense, which means it has a motion sensor so you don’t have to touch the handle. This comes in handy when your kids have super messy hands and you don’t want them  touching anything. And I love the spot-resist finish!

The apron front, farm style sink has been especially handy with large cookware, and it looks beautiful.

I opted to change the layout of this side of the kitchen to allow for more counter space, something my old kitchen was sorely lacking. It feels so nice to have that extra space!

Yes, I know the fridge is huge, but I don’t care. I big double puffy heart love it.

I agonized over this stove. Gas or electric? Dual Fuel? Slide in? Gosh, seriously I spent HOURS reading reviews and trying to weigh the options. I love to cook so it was really important for me to make the right choice. So far, I LOVE it!

Hardware for the cabinets from D Lawless. It’s an amazing, family owned company and they were fabulous to work with.

I tried to get a good photo of the countertops but the lighting is so bad in the kitchen (very little natural light) that this was the best I could do. Another decision I agonized over!

  1. I do not see the grout brand or color listed. I am doing white cabinets & gray tile as well but can’t decide on light gray or white grout.

    1. I wish I had that information for you, but it was just something my ontractor brought by and I chose from. Sorry!

  2. Wow! That is really stunning. It’s really the first time I’ve seen stainless appliances that really work well in the kitchen. The color palette will stand the test of time (I grew up with an avocado range and mustard colored ah. other pieces and parts.) Good on ya! You’ll still be loving this kitchen when the kids are married and the grandkids come over to make cookies. Gas range — excellent choice. Clipboards as frames? Brilliant!

  4. I love the light fixture above the sink! I’m trying to find it on Wayfair, but they have hundreds! Do you have a specific model or keywords I can search on? Kitchen looks awesome!

  5. Nice job Kristen. Did you use white grout for your backsplash? My countertops are similar and tile is alittle darker trying to decide on grout colour? Thanks

  6. Love the faucet. I wish I could have taken your bench for the breakfast nook off of your hands. I have a 1956 home but embrace a Mid Century modern style. I envision that corner so differently! We do share the gray kitchen choices! I didn’t have a choice, my entire house ‘remodel’ came without a moments notice. Hurricane Harvey left 3 ft. of water in my house and all of my choices, made from a motel room, have been under the gun. You made a huge improvement, I didn’t even know curtains in the before picture still existed!

  7. Hi there…
Love your finished kitchen!!! My husband and I are a weekend away from a DIY backsplash install but I’m stuck on what color grout to use. My tile is subway 3×6 dove grey (Home Depot) with a crackle look to it. We just had a Lusso quartz countertop installed—greys, cream, and white marble appearance. I love the grey tile/light grout look you did but I keep reading light/white grout isn’t a good choice. Yours looks perfect. Could you share the name of it? Thanks!

  8. Hi Kristin!
Youre KItchen is GORGEOUS!!! you did an absolutely beautiful job!!! I love love everything!! I know this is all a few years old but i am finally renovating my kitchen and i would love to know what the name of your tile backsplash is? Is it ceramic? Porcelain ( I see you purchased at Daltile). Thank you so much!!!!

    1. It’s is daltile but I’m sorry, I don’t recall the name of the color! They don’t have a ton of gray subway tile so I’m sure they could help you out if you asked.

  9. What a beautiful kitchen! I have a question. We are wrapping up a kitchen remodel and a lot of our style/choices are similar. Love this color of backsplash and currently have a sample tile sitting on my counter. I was disappointed to find it doesn’t come in a matte finish. Do you ever have a problem with the glare or reflection the glossy tile can have?

  10. What a pretty place to do all your creative cooking. We are just starting our kitchen makeover. We have decided on Ikea cabinets. Having some of the dilemmas you had. Printed off your kitchen art! Thank you for your ideas.

  11. My favorite part of the room are those floors! Stunning! My second favorite, those counters! You’ve done a beautiful job decorating. I hope, if and when it ever happens, that my kitchen look as pretty!

  12. Hi Kristin! Your kitchen is absolutely stunning! I love it! We are currently renovating our kitchen and are on a major hold because of issues with the countertop company (ie going bankrupt and taking our deposit with it- ugh). But I just put down a new deposit at another company yesterday and picked a quartz carrara looking style like you used- I love it and am so thrilled to see it in your kitchen- it gives me a great idea of what it will “really” look like. I love all the finishes you chose – we have chosen many similar finishes as well. Now I am even more inspired to finally see ours come together…in, like, 8 looooong weeks. Oh well. What’s double the expected time for a kitchen reno, no big deal, right? lol. Pinning your kitchen like crazy! Have a great weekend:)

  13. Great job! It looks amazing! I love the combination of grey and white. I bet it is such a relief to be done and get to enjoy it now!

  14. Did you remove the soffit, or just cover the soffit with cabinets that went to the ceiling? We are debating about the same issue, and I wondered how covering the soffit with the full door cabinet wold look ? Thanks for posting, your kitchen is absolutely beautiful. So far I have the same refrigerator, the same faucet, & a similar sink. So looking forward to my kitchen remodel. Thanks again

        1. Hi Lisa, I honestly don’t remember, but within the scope of the entire kitchen project, I don’t believe it was at all.

  15. Love the new look. Such a transformation. The sink, clipboard artwork, lighting, cake stands, even the basket of magazines. They all work together for the complete look. I love plants so I would add an ivy in a brightly-colored pot, maybe on the top of the refrigerator. Your vision seems to have come to life and you will enjoy your hard work for years to come. Congrats!

  16. Wow !! Just love it all, what a great job ! Fantastic transformation, thumbs up to you.
I am a little confused, some of the pictures don’t match up ? Where is the fridge?
in some shots its at the end by a wall, other there is no fridge a window with the
corner chair and your boards. (fantastic idea). It looks like you took out a wall ?
How does it really look now and where did the fridge go?
Now I going back to ck out the bathroom idea / or maybe its done.
    Again fantastic transformation ….

  17. WOW!!! Looks amazing, Kristin! I love the gray subway tile and the sink is gorgeous!! I bet you are spending all of your free time in there! I know I would.

  18. Great makeover .feels fresh and inviting.I found battery operated under counter lights at Lowe’s .They were 12.00 each.I live in an early 1900 house so running wire was my problem so the battery lights work great for me

  19. Kristin, I am in love with your kitchen! We live in an old house and someday I hope to modernize our kitchen. Love every tiny detail including the touch faucet. We do have one of those from Delta and I absolutely love it, too! Enjoy your new space and make lots more cookies!

  20. Your kitchen turned out fabulous!! I love it! I have similar countertops and backsplash and it makes the space feel so bright and open. Great job on everything!

  21. Looks fantastic! I am so jealous that you are already done… I’m still doing all those little odd jobs on mine! Can I just come eat in yours until mine is done? ; )

  22. Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! I just can’t get over the transformation, Kristin! It’s so pretty! You really knocked it outta the ball park. It’s hard to believe from the first photo that it’s the same kitchen. You did a great job!

  23. Looks GORGEOUS girl! Glad my brother did a great job for you 🙂 Can’t wait to see it in person!

  24. Oh Kristin it is gorgeous!! I love it so much! What a happy and welcoming space~ And WHAT a transformation!

  25. STUNNING!!! I LOVE your grey subway tiles, the countertops have me drooling and those appliances are to die for!! I’m so excited for you!

  26. WOW…it looks amazing…I love the white and the gray together…that sink is fab and the faucet kills me.
That light from Wayfair is beautiful too. Great job !!!

  27. What a gorgeous redo! The transformation is amazing. I love every element and aspect of your design ~ everything flows so naturally. 🙂 Now I need help with my kitchen ~ it’s stuck in the mid-70’s aka Brady Bunch style. Pinning!

  28. I LOVE it Kristin! I can’t even believe that before picture. Insane! Love your gray tile backsplash. Totally inspiring me 🙂
