RECIPE WALK-THROUGH

Ingredient Notes

  • Cream Cheese – Use full-fat for the creamiest texture.
  • Mozzarella – Freshly shredded melts best, but pre-shredded works in a pinch.
  • Pizza Sauce – We love Rao’s Pizza Sauce for this recipe, but any brand works!
  • Mini Pepperoni – If you can’t find mini pepperoni you can cut up regular pepperoni.
  • Sour Cream – You can use full-fat Greek yogurt as a substitute.

How To Make Pizza Dip

Making this cheesy dip with mini pepperoni only takes a few steps and can be on the table in under half an hour! This is perfect for parties or even last-minute visitors who drop by for a chat.

Cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, Italian seasoning in a cast iron pan.

Mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, and Italian seasoning in a bowl with a hand mixer until fluffy. Fold in ½ cup of mozzarella and the parmesan cheese.

Unbaked pizza dip with cheese and mini pepperoni on top all in a cast iron pan.

Assemble by spreading the cheese mixture into a 9-inch cast iron skillet, deep-dish pie plate, or 2-quart casserole dish. Layer with pizza sauce, then top with remaining mozzarella and mini pepperoni.

Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and lightly browned. For extra crispiness, broil for a few minutes at the end.

Garnish with fresh basil (optional) and serve with toasted baguette rounds, garlic knots, or mini naan bread.

Serving Suggestions

  • Drizzle with hot honey after baking for a spicy-sweet kick.
  • Add toppings like cooked sausage, bacon, bell peppers, or olives.
  • If using mushrooms, sauté first to prevent excess moisture.
  • Substitute marinara sauce for pizza sauce, but strain excess liquid or mix in tomato paste to thicken.

Storage Tips

Make Ahead and Leftovers

  • Make Ahead – You can make this a day or two ahead of time. For best results, bake immediately before serving.
  • Storage – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheating Leftovers – Reheat your easy pizza dip in the microwave in short intervals until warmed through. The cheese may separate slightly, but it will still taste great!

Recipe Tips

Freshly grated mozzarella cheese is best! Pre-packaged cheese has anti-caking agents that dry out the cheese, not allowing it to melt as well. If that’s all you have, it’ll work, but for the best results you should shred your own cheese.

Make Your Own Toasted Baguette For Serving

  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Thinly slice a baguette and brush both sides with olive oil.
  • Toast in the skillet until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.
  • Alternatively, bake at 425°F for 10-12 minutes on a sheet pan.
  • Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder immediately after cooking.
