How To Make Totchos

See the recipe card below for full, detailed instructions

Cook Tater Tots – Cook the tater tots either in the oven or the air fryer, following directions on the package, then arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. You do want to make sure that you put a piece of foil or parchment paper down for easy clean up. You can use any brand of tater tots that you like, or try sweet potato tots!

Cook Bacon – Fry up the bacon in a skillet until crispy, then drain on paper towels. Crumble or chop into small pieces. Instead of frying you can also cook bacon in the oven or air fryer.

Variations

This recipe is easy to customize with any toppings that you would put on regular nachos! You can even split up the tater tots among a couple smaller sheet pans to make different versions. Some other toppings worth trying:

  • Black Beans
  • Diced Red Onion
  • Sliced Jalapeño Peppers
  • Pico de GalloAdd after baking.
  • GuacamoleAdd after baking.
  • Shredded Lettuce – Add after baking.
  • Corn Kernels – Use either a drained can of corn kernels or frozen corn kernels that have been cooked quickly in a skillet.
  • QuesoDrizzle on after baking the totchos.
  • Taco Meat – Like the taco meat in this Ground Beef Tacos Recipe.

Storage Tips

The Best Way to Store Leftovers

These are best eaten right after making them as they’ll get soft and lose their crispness. But leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and then reheated in a 375℉ oven for about 10 minutes to warm up.

Recipe Tips

  • Cooking Tater Tots – To get crisp tater tots, I like to either cook them in the air fryer or, if baking in the oven, make sure to spread them out well so there is space in between for the heat to circulate.
  • Spread Tots in a Single Layer – When you’re loading up the tater tots with melted cheese and toppings, make sure the tater tots are in a single layer so every tot gets covered with melted cheese and toppings.
